A tale about how a vest + boot combo can change your life

When I first wore this bohemian dress, I was enjoying a paradise-like getaway on the west coast. See proof here. It hasn't stopped being a fave since then, but thanks to winter, I haven't been able to pull it out like I'd like to.

"Half of my closet has been given back to me, and for that, I am eternally grateful."

That is until I bought these boots. Oh, yes, these heeled OTK babies have breathed new life into my closet. Everything I wear with them just feels different, you know? Combined with my warm shearling vest, they've made a drastic impact on my quality of life.

Now I can pull out somewhat seasonally inappropriate dresses and make them wearable once more. Half of my closet has been given back to me, and for that, I am eternally grateful. So grateful, in fact, that I bought these boots in taupe, too. What can I say? When I fall, I fall hard, dammit.

Same Old, Same Old

It's not truly fall until I pull this combo out and wear it endlessly. Something about this shearling vest & hat combo elevate every outfit to boho perfection. See exhibit A, B, C or D. Like I said, I wear it endlessly.

And these days, it helps to have a go-to combo. I am balancing my last semester of college, work, an internship and preparing to make a major move. As much as I live for a great dress up day or a new addition to my closet, those things are taking precedent.

So, I'm going to have to sacrifice glamour for a bit. But it's a sacrifice I make gladly, because when I get all these things accomplished, you can bet I'll be celebrating with a fantastic new outfit.

In Transition

If you have the strong urge to start layering everything in your closet right now, just know, I'm there with you. This weekend there was the faintest tease of of fall in the air, so I made a mad dash to my closet and dug out anything layer-worthy.

I've got sweaters, vests and jackets ready to go as soon as the first crunchy leaf falls. Just don't tell my denim cutoffs. As you can see, they're still pleading the case for summer. It would be fair to say I'm a little closet confused right now.

Breezy Boho Maxi

I don't know what it is, but summer just doesn't feel like summer without one good maxi skirt, especially a patterned one giving all sorts of amazing boho vibes. 

I think it plays into my fantasy of being on a tropical island, toes in the sand, coconut in hand, with the breeze blowing my skirt to and fro in the salty seaside winds. You guys know what I'm talking about right?

Realistically, that fantasy is farther from me than I'd like, but a girl can dream. All it takes is a messy top knot, layered jewelry, and of course, the boho maxi skirt.

Like Paradise

This week is all serious stuff for me -- taking finals to end this semester and getting started on my upcoming summer semester. That means I've been spending a lot of time trying to find ways to keep my mind off of the impending responsibility. 

A great way to avoid present responsibilities is to take a trip to the past. Currently my head is back in L.A. where the sun was always out, street corners were lush and I was carefree enough to go boho,  flash tats included. 

Yes, I'm late to the party, but I feel like if there is anywhere in the world to stamp your body with gold, it would be the west coast. This printed peasant dress was an easy wear during my trip, and I can't wait to wear it again, even if it is just to pretend I'm back in a mini paradise.

There was no way I would leave Cali without paying a visit to one of my favorite quintessential L.A. outfitters -- Living Doll Los Angeles. 

The tour included a peek at how their clothes are made (everything is manufactured in house -- made in America, baby!) and a preview of their newest addition -- hand distressed vintage denim. It also included strawberry margs. Safe to say, I love the LDLA girls.

Not So Spring

Last time I wore this dress, summer was saying its goodbyes. Now, I'm hoping, wishing and praying that winter will be doing the same. I'm ready for brighter colors already, dammit!

 I was gearing up for a blooming spring, but this past week knocked be back into winter with unwelcomed snowfall. I had to pull out my turtleneck to layer, a warm shearling vest and thick tights, and I pretty much cried as I did it.

Summer Crush

So, I'm over winter. Completely done. I refuse to even acknowledge it at this point, so I'm time traveling to summer. Who's coming with? 

These are some quick outfit snaps from my trip to Savannah this past summer. Looking at the sunshine in these photos I almost shed a tear. Y'all, I had a tan.

I miss flowy, boho dresses, and I miss caged sandals and most of all, I miss the sun.
