The New Classics

I'm getting old, and before you roll your eyes at a 24-year-old calling herself old, let me just say that I am not complaining. It's just a fact. And I know this because, now, with every decision I make, even in my closet, I'm thinking of the future.

When I added this trench vest to my shopping cart, my thought process went beyond the usual "Oh, this is cute." I was thinking of every way I could make this staple work, from office to weekend. I was being – gasp – practical.

I'm still holding onto some of that youthful impracticality, though, mixing trends with staples. Taking a trench coat and turning it into a vest. The new classic, if you will.

Flipped & Reversed

I'm in this love/hate relationships with stripes right now. It's really quite the conundrum, but to put it simply, I hate them, because I love them. 

"LET'S BE REAL, A STRIPE IS A STRIPE IS STRIPE, NO MATTER HOW YOU TRY TO FLIP IT AND REVERSE IT." 

Some days I wake up and think, "spice it up, Audrey! Do something weird, fun, different!" And then I throw on a comfy striped t-shirt dress and totally ignore that thought.  

I convince myself I'm breaking the rules by adding lace or denim to the mix, but let's be real, a stripe is a stripe is a stripe, no matter how you try to flip it and reverse it. I wish I knew how to quit them, I just don't know how.

A Perfect Match

When I packed for my L.A. trip,  I made a conscious effort to bring clothes that could all work if remixed. This is the love child of this look & this look. And, I don't know, I may be biased, but I think that it's a pretty genius pairing.  

Everybody give it up one more time for this dress, which, with the right top becomes a skirt. Also, this crop top deserves honorable mention for having those transformative qualities. Together, they make one hell of a power house couple.

Springtime Stripes

I sort of miss fall's dark lipstick and oxblood everything, but sometimes your favorite trends have to get left behind with the season. You just gotta suck it up and move on, girlfriend.

But, there are some seasonal saving graces. For me, it's stripes. I am oh-so-grateful that stripes make up half my wardrobe, so I can always mix it in. For spring, punchy lipstick and lace up heels are all I need to make fall stripes look fresh.

This cardigan from Lookbook Store makes ripped jeans & an oversized tank look way more than just jeans & a tank, which is a godsend when you give yourself only 30 minutes to get ready because you snoozed all 4 of your wake-up alarms.

April Showers

I'm not a fan of April. Well, let me rephrase that: I'm not a fan of rain. And it seems those two go hand in hand. Maybe if my hair weren't so damn frizz-prone, I wouldn't mind, but as you can tell, that just ain't the case.

It was a very damp weekend here, and though I wanted to stay wrapped in bed, I had things to do and people to see. Read: wake up at 6 a.m. to shop and have a much need catch up with my girl. It was #worthit, even with the resulting bad hair day.

"MAYBE IF MY HAIR WASN'T SO DAMN FRIZZ-PRONE, I WOULDN'T MIND, BUT AS YOU CAN TELL, THAT JUST AIN'T THE CASE." 

If I have to brave the elements, I'm going to to do it with a bright umbrella and even brighter lipstick. Also, my most lived in striped dress and classic trench, of course. You just let me know when they start making frizz defense that actually works.

Frou Frou Days

For everyday that I have when all I want to wear is laid-back, minimal neutrals, there are others when I reach for the pinkest, sparkliest, most femme things I own. In other words, what I call my frou frou days.

I sort of have these days down to a mathematical equation: pink squared with my favorite lipstick and flare skirt, pattern times two with dainty polka dots and fun striped heels, then add lots of sparkle with an arm stack from Wrist Soiree.

With all my key elements in place, the frou frou-ing can commence, and oh my, is frou-frou-ing fun.

Call It Spring

As you may know by now, winter is no longer welcomed here. So, despite the fact that it is gloomy and precipitous, I am dressing like it's 70 degrees and sunny, baby. 

 Full disclosure though, I wore this a few weekends ago when it was actually 70 degrees and sunny. I was so giddy about it that I even pulled out my favorite spring trend: pattern mixing. 

And what says, "it's springtime up in here," more than fun polka dot bottoms, easy d'orsay flats and sunny pops of coral? Seriously, tell me. I'm welcoming all things spring related right now.

Tried & True

I can't be the only girl over this awful in between seasons stage. We've had sunny spring weather, only to be threatened with snow a week later. I mean, not to be harsh, but Mother Nature is being a real moody b***h. 

I'm very uninspired this time of year (I'm really just holding out for Spring colors), so I stick to my tried-and-true staples: a classic striped dress, layered with my overworn utility vest, tights and booties. Sparkle and red lipstick for the sake of my sanity, of course.
