A Midi

Me and my midis go way back. Back to the days when I was an avid thrifter, combing through racks of vintage and thrown away clothes. I don't thrift nearly as much as I used to, bit midi skirts still hold a place in my heart. 

Whether I dress it up or down is entirely dependent upon my mood, but just knowing that either is an option easily makes this skirt one of my favorites.

Though I have many, this one's rich color and subtle sheen is season appropriate. Topped with a tough moto jacket, though, it isn't too holiday-ish. Tough As Nails

I'm a tough broad. Now I know those are strong words to start a Monday morning, but they are absolutely necessary. Last week I forgot all about this and stress got the best of me. I refuse to allow that to happen again, dammit.

I have a restful weekend to thank for my renewed resilience, but I'd be lying if I didn't give these lace-up heels some credit. They also give my casual polka dot midi and denim jacket a much needed attitude boost, and I'm all for that.

"THOUGH I WON'T BE WEARING THIS DURING THE WEEK...THIS ATTITUDE BOOST WILL BE ENOUGH TO KEEP ME GOING." 

Though I won't be wearing this during the week, thanks to ungodly early summer classes, sweats and my utter lack of care that will no doubt be around for the rest of summer semester, this attitude boost will be enough to keep me going.

new year, new me

I think by now I've established that I'm no tough, kickass chick. We all agree on that, right? 

So, with 2015 around the corner, I'm making plans to add a little extra sumthin' sumthin' to shake that up. Sumthin' sumthin' in the form of a lot of black. 

I'll never be able to go full on "Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" tough, though. I mean, this sweater by Wet Seal + is literally called The Soft & Fuzzy Sweater. I'm not fooling anyone. I'll always be soft (and fuzzy) at heart.

Something about being in California brought out the "cool" in me. That sounds silly, I know, but I don't think I'd have the nerve to wear a tied tee and pencil midi skirt in the middle of October back home. Maybe it's the fact that Cali is perpetually 70 degrees and sunny.

Being the art nerd my guy is, he took me to the Getty Museum. It's a really stunning museum -- the gardens and architecture are amazing, and that's even before you get to the actual artwork.

pink october

This quintessentially girly color has been on my brain a lot lately. I've been eyeing pink coats and pinning blush toned bouquets like crazy. 

Until I make my next major pink purchase, I will be twirling in this skirt from Fiore Boutique. Paired with a light sweater, it's perfect for the transitional season we're having in the south. Who knew a soft, spring pink would be acceptable during fall? 

I'd like to note that it is especially acceptable during October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Since my readers are practically my girlfriends, I just want to remind you: don't forget to check up on your ta-tas! And also, wear as much pink as you can stomach.

a gal & her dog

 

If you don't know by now, (I've posted it all over IG) I just got a puppy! Millie, the 8-month old shih tzu, is a little burst of joy in my life. She's a crazy one, much like her owner.

She's teaching me patience and the importance of prep time. Before I go anywhere, playtime and potty time have to be considered. Sometimes, if it's a lax day, I'll take her out with me. This past weekend we went to the Farmer's Market, and we couldn't move a foot without someone stopping us to gush over her. 

I don't want to become one of those people who blab on and on about how cute their dog is, so I'll stop here. Instead, I'll blab about this outfit. It's 50's inspired and the polka-dot midi is thrifted. I don't go retro as often as I used to, but there's still a soft spot for it in my heart.

weekend cool

I feel like the weekends are the universe's way of saying, "here's two free days! Do what you want and be who you want!"  Now that I'm starting up my internship, I'll be getting more familiar with the structured side of style. I'm excited about it, for sure, but that free-spirited 23-year-old is still in me. She's alive, kicking and yelling, "I want to wear crop tops, dammit!" 

And I listened to her. But only because it was a festival weekend which made wearing a crop top more than appropriate. As for the rest of the get up, it's mostly thrifted. That's probably why I get a slight 90's (or 50's?) feeling from it. The free-spirited 23-year-old in me is okay with that, too.
