Not So Spring

Boho Beaded Shift Dress
Last time I wore this dress, summer was saying its goodbyes. Now, I'm hoping, wishing and praying that winter will be doing the same. I'm ready for brighter colors already, dammit!
I was gearing up for a blooming spring, but this past week knocked be back into winter with unwelcomed snowfall. I had to pull out my turtleneck to layer, a warm shearling vest and thick tights, and I pretty much cried as I did it.

the sweetest thing

Old Navy Beaded Dress

This dress has the potential to be a very sexy LBD. After all, it is a delicately beaded slip dress. Can you imagine it with strappy heels and a little hint of a lacy bra peeking out? I mean, if that isn't sexy, I don't know what is.

The only thing is these days being sexy is not high on my to-do list. But since it's getting colder, being warm is. That in mind, I layered the hell out of this dress.

In all honesty, it wouldn't have made sense for me to wear it any other way, since  I was only grabbing coffee with a friend. And by coffee I mean apple pie. I may not be indulgent with my fashion choices this fall, but I am all for indulging my seasonal sweet tooth.

hot tin roof

slip dress

I can't tell you how much I've tried to make slip dresses work for me (so many attempts), until one day I finally threw my hands in the air and said, fuhgeddaboudit! And then, like with most things in life, the minute I stopped stressing, it came to me.

This picture of Elizabeth Taylor  in a slip dress from Cat on a Hot Tin Roof has long been an inspiration for me. Remembering it, I decided that trying too hard to make a slip dress work, wouldn't work. Simplicity would have to do.

Then I thought, duh, what would be simpler than throwing something over it? This trench (only $3 thrifted, might I add) takes away the question of, "is she wearing a nightgown in public?" It makes it structured.

Don't get me wrong -- this is still a saucy look -- but it was just perfect to wear for a drink, channeling Maggie the Cat, on a cooler summer day.
