Blue Jean Baby

70's Boho Flared Jeans & Stripes

I knew the day would come, but never did I think it would be so soon. I'm a flared jeans convert. I resisted it at first because I didn't want to succumb to the trend, and then because I wasn't sure if I'd like how they'd look on me.

It's funny – I was just as vehement about avoiding skinnies when they first came onto the sartorial scene, and for the same reasons, too.

But, after finding this pair, both of those concerns were dismissed. It's funny – I was just as vehement about avoiding skinnies when they first came onto the sartorial scene, and for the same reasons, too.

Cut to me being a dedicated member of The Church of The Skinny Jean. For years, all I looked at and bought were those skin tights, in every wash available. I don't think I'll fully stray from the church – skinnies are still fantastic, after all – but here's to hoping I can be a member of both.

the denim equation

denim pink blazer

In my recent efforts to get comfortable in jeans after years of avoidance, I've cooked up a kind of crazy idea. Hear me out, okay? Pull those denim bottoms out of your closet, dust them off, and then throw on a denim top. Life changing, I say. Also, to be completely honest, I didn't entirely come up with this idea

Pinterest did it. I saw this combo and was immediately smitten. I'd never thought that wearing matching denim-on-denim could work. It almost doesn't. But the blazer, a thrifted one I should mention, is the glue that holds this all together. It is what really makes this work.

And with it being such a vital part of the denim squared equation, why not make it a bright bubblegum pink? And then, why not add striped heels and a structured purse to really tell the world, "hey, I know this is a Texas Tuxedo, but look, I can make it fancy!"

jeans & a sweatshirt

In my ongoing scientific research to figure out how I can make jeans less boring, I came upon this hypothesis: perhaps taking denim and adding an even more casual piece, a sweatshirt at that, could work if elevated by some serious accessorizing. My discovery? I was so right.

Like sprinkles on ice cream or glitter on just about anything, good accessories make everything better. But, you already knew that, didn't you?

Here's something that maybe you didn't know, though. My search for perfect denim has taken me years. Frustrating hours spent in fitting rooms wiggling around, finally finding a pair that were great except for something. There's always something. And then, I found these, the most perfect pair at Old Navy for just $19. The clouds parted, angels sang and I slipped them effortlessly without so much as a wince.
