Bringing back mom crotch in a major way

A lot has happened since the last time I've posted: I've got a haircut I'm in love with, I've had my first lobster roll ever (life changing), and I've developed a new Sandy-at-the-end-of-Grease sense of style, complete with the moto jacket.

I also anticipate that in five years I'll look back at these photos and think, 'wait, what, why?' like most people from the 90's do when they look at their past outfits...

Well, really, I think it was always there, but being in New York where you can wear literally anything, I've gotten more comfortable with experimenting. Yes, my legs are out! My belly button, too! And yes I'm rocking 90's mom crotch—and I am okay with all of those things! 

I anticipate a lot of summer outfits of this caliber. I also anticipate that in five years I'll look back at these photos and think, 'wait, what, why?' like most people from the 90's do when they look at their past outfits, but I won't regret the feeling of freedom. Yes, freedom in the form of shorts. I'm all about it.

Santa Monica Pier

I arrived in L.A. right at the beginning of a heat wave, which meant 90 degree days in March. Mild spring weather right? 

When the temperatures start rising, Californians run to the beach. I ran to Santa Monica Pier, a colorful beachside spot that doubles as a cute amusement park. The breeze from the ocean was a godsend that day, as was the fresh fruit from an unexpected fruit stand. 

Yes, fresh fruit you can pick out and have cut right in front of you. I didn't even miss my traditional fried fair favorite, funnel cake. California will do that to you, I guess.

distressed but well dressed

Not gonna toot my own horn, but toot-toot. I've successfully made my first pair of distressed denim cut-off and they are currently my second skin. They are a quintessential summer item and, most of all, easy to wear.

Which has been pretty good for me these days 'cause life hasn't been so easy. I'm talkin' emotional roller coaster, squirrel friends. Don't you wish that you could just put your feelings on reserve some days and go through life in a beautiful oblivion? Imagine how productive we'd be without being bogged down by down by those pesky little things called "emotions." Or is that just me?

But back to the topic at hand: these shorts. They once were baggy mom jeans and are now a relaxed pair of distressed cutoffs and I couldn't be happier. If you want to make a pair, this is my favorite how-to by a pair & a spare. Here's to happy distressing -- your jeans, not your life.
