animal attraction

Khaki and Black Trench Coat
Saying that I love leopard print would be an understatement. The pattern reigns supreme in my closest, mostly in the form of accessories like shoes, scarves and clutches. I sneak it in the details so no one will notice that I have a problem.
And the thing is, I don't even know why I like it so much. There's this instinct in me. Maybe it's an animal attraction, but wherever there's leopard to be found, I'm there.

prepping for christmas

Now that we've all had our fill of cranberry stuffing, it's safe to sing "Christmas Time Is Here!" I'm so excited to start hanging garland and tinsel, but on a smaller scale.
I'm still living the college-girl-cramped-living-quarters life, but that doesn't mean I can't deck the halls and fa la la la la. My christmas will be merry and bright, by any means necessary, girlfriends. Here are some of the reasons why.
Christmas Gold Wrapping Paper
gifting: From hunting for the perfect gift to finding just the right wrapping paper, it's all so much fun. Here are some gifts that I've fallen in love with while looking for my family. I can't be the only one who grabs one or two things for themselves...right?
Hot Apple Cider
flavors: Cinnamon, nutmeg, peppermint, spices -- they all make the holidays for me. Pumpkin Spice has its place, but my favorite has to be a peppermint white mocha, followed by hot apple cider.
Christmas Glitter Candle
glitter: If there's one thing above all I love, it's that Christmas just has a glow and a twinkle about it. The candles, the fairy lights, the glittering ornaments -- it feels like Christmas transforms the world into a new, magical place.

late girl's guide | pumpkin pie parfait

I am one of the few members of my family with a sweet tooth, so come holiday season desserts are an afterthought. After years of disappointment, I decided to take sweets into my own hands.
Aside from being delicious and easy to make, it's a little bit healthier than a slice of pie because of the secret ingredient (shh, it's greek yogurt).
Pumpkin Pie Parfait

1. Mix yogurt, pumpkin, condensed milk and cinnamon together until smooth.

The yogurt gives it the creamy, tart taste, similar to cheesecake.
2. Put mixture in fridge to solidify for at least an hour.
3. Layer crumbled shortbread cookies, whipped cream and pumpkin mixture. Keep in fridge until ready to serve.
 4. Before serving, top with more whipped cream and cookie crumbs.

all dressed

Burgundy Dress + Fur Vest
It's safe to say that burgundy (or is it oxblood? Wine maybe?) is going to be a part of my fall color palette for forever.
When I saw this  Bell Sleeve Chiffon dress on Wet Seal's website, that trustworthy light bulb flashed above my head and I thought, "Thanksgiving solved!"
Layered with a faux fur vest, it's instant luxe without really any fuss. And if there's one thing I don't want on Turkey Day, it's fuss.

must-have fall scarves

Fall Scarves
I've been been singing fall's praises since the first leaves fell, but this week I've really been feeling it. And by "it" I mean that brutal, sharp wind that makes you add an extra sweater in the morning.
I've also been grabbing for my favorite scarves as I run out the door. Below are the three I reach for the most. My advice to you: best get to bundling up, girlfriends!
Plaid Zara Scarf
plaid scarf: Few patterns say "it's fall" like plaid. I especially love the blanket plaid scarves that are perfect for getting wrapped up in. Since it's a classic pattern, it can make an outfit more polished.
Leopard Print Scarf
leopard scarf: This scarf has gotten me through 3 fall seasons -- proof that this is really a must have. Since leopard is a neutral (if you don't think so, we can't be friends), you can wear it with so many different outfits.
Knitted Scarf
knitted scarf: This is truly the warmest, most worn scarf I own. If you don't own a knitted scarf, you're basically telling the universe that you want to catch a cold.

sweater times two

Sweater Dress & Open Cardi
What better way to wear a sweater, than with another sweater, right? I was all about the sweater dress last fall, but this year I'm all about cozy open cardis. As I may have mentioned before, they're practically wearable blankets.

For twice the warmth, I paired my favorite old sweater dress with my favorite new cardi from Wet Seal. Now let me tell you, if you think wearing one sweater is like being wrapped in a blanket, wearing two is like being tucked in and ready for bed.

tulle & a tour through blogland

What could be more of a blogger move than wearing a tulle skirt? Maybe just the Tour Through Blogland feature that I am sharing today!  Michelle from The Mich Mix invited me to participate, and though I'm a week late (college student probs) I'm excited to share it with you all.

Black and Tulle

1. What am I working on?
Site layout - I don't think any blogger is ever 100% happy with it. There's always something to tweak, so I'm prepping for a site revamp. Also, I'm really trying to work on getting out from behind my laptop and to blogger events. They always look so fun, and I'd love to meet you sparkly ladies in person!
2. How does my work differ from others in it's genre?
I can't really pinpoint it, but I know that I do try to have fun with my blog. I don't take any of it too seriously, and I'm certainly no expert, so everything I share is a little humorous, experimental and hopefully, relatable.
3. Why do I write/create what I do?
I've always loved writing (hello, journalism major), but that's just a small reason behind it. I knew that there had to be girls out there like me, 20-something year-olds who were still figuring it all out, but knew that they wanted to have a beautiful, happy, full life, even though things weren't "perfect."
I wanted to show that it could be done. You may not have loads of the money, know all of the designers, be your ideal weight, have the best hair, live in the fanciest apartment, be finished with your degree, have the best job, be a DIY queen or a culinary genius, BUT you can still make your life wonderful and sparkly and something to be excited about.
4. How does my writing/creating process work?
If you can't tell, I'm pretty wordy, so that comes easily to me. Content-wise, I create what I want to see -- things that make me go, "oooh, yes, that!" Sometimes I schedule posts (that's my newspaper background kicking in) and other times, I'm up at midnight following a burst of an idea that I've just had.

late girl's guide | california flatbread pizza

I first tried flatbread pizza at Chili's - glamorous right? But it was flavorful, filling and a plus, much lighter than traditional pizza. Looking at my wiped-clean plate, I knew I needed to have this in my life on a regular basis, meaning, I needed to get in the kitchen.  The great thing about this recipe is that it's super customizable and cooks in the blink of an eye.

Pizza Ingredients

ingredients
1. Cook the bacon to your crisp preference. In the same pan cook your meat (I chose shrimp because it cooks fast). The flavor of the bacon transfers over nicely.
 2. Prep your tomatoes and avocado. Crumble your bacon.
3. On your flatbread, sprinkle cheese, bacon, shrimp, and tomatoes. I used a Flatout Wheat Flatbread as a healthier option.
4. Bake in oven at 350°F for 15 minutes or until edges get crisp.
5. After baking, add diced avocados and drizzle chipotle ranch dressing over your pizza. Eat & enjoy!

more like fall

Houndstooth Cardigan + J. Crew Skirt

Sweater weather is here, and I will not be caught out in the fall chill sweaterless. My favorite style has been the flowy, open cardigans that are a little bohemian. They're practically wearable blankets.

That said, what I really love about this one from Wet Seal + is that it's more tailored and polished. Perfect for a dressier fall occasion (a little holiday called Thanksgiving, anyone?) or, in my case, playing in a pile of leaves.

I mean, what could be more like fall than throwing on a cozy sweater and playing in a pile of leaves? Not much I tell ya, not much.

hello moto

Moto Jacket & Joggers

What is it about a leather (okay, faux leather) moto jacket that makes you feel infinitely cooler? I mean, I feel like Sandy at the end of Grease. Tell me about it, stud.

Aside from the boost of cool, this jacket is a great way to bundle up without the bulk. I don't know for how much longer I'll be wearing it alone, though.

It's getting to be that time where I'll be wearing a tank under a tee under a button up under this jacket. I'm talking layers, y'all.
